NorthStar Baptist Church: Our Staff

Dr. William E. "Bill" Houck felt God calling him to being NorthStar in August 1998. After meeting in a local high school for over two years, God allowed NorthStar to purchase 16.8 acres of land. This property had been in the same family since the days of the Civil War. After purchasing and paying for the property, construction began on the building (phase 1). We have a 3 story building that provides space for our Bible Fellowship classes, offices, nursery, kitchen and a large fellowship hall where our services are currently held. (phase 2) will be the construction of our sanctuary. God has blessed each step of NorthStar's growth. Pastor Bill graduated from Trinity Bible College with a B.A. in Religious Education. He received his M.Div. from Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary and his D.Min from Luther Rice Seminary. Pastor Houck has pastored churches in Florida, Tennessee, Pennsylvania, Louisiana and Virginia. He and his wife, Sue have one daughter, Sarah.

J.W. Hartsock serves as our Worship Leader. J.W. has been at NorthStar since the beginning of the church. He is employed by Wachovia Bank. J.W. has led worship in many churches and we are thankful to have him serving in this capacity again. J.W. is married to Darlene and they have two grown sons (Chad & Seth), both serving the Lord in full-time Christian service. Seth is married to Kim and they have one child, Judah. Chad and his wife Amy have a daughter, Kaylin.

Dustin Steward is the High School Youth Minister. Dustin and his wife, Melissa have one son, Andrew. They have been a part of NorthStar since 2001. Dustin is a graduate of Texas Christian University and has his MBA from King College. Dustin owns and operates his own business. He also served 9 years in the United States Marine Corp.

Jennifer Boyd serves as our Children’s Director. She is married to David and they have one son, Kelvin. Jennifer is employed at Spring Garden Daycare in Bristol, Virginia. She has always enjoyed children and teaching. She grew up as the oldest in a big family and has always been involved in church childcare. "I have such a passion to see children grow in wisdom and in the fear of God. I feel that here at NorthStar, it is important to train our children to do right, so that they can learn to make a difference in the world. Children are not the church of tomorrow...they are the church of today!”

Lou Ann Jones serves as the Administrative Assistant. She is a graduate of King College with a degree in Psychology. She is married to Kevin and they have one daughter, Madi. Kevin and Lou Ann are charter members of our church. Lou Ann serves on the board of "Aborton Alternatives."

Gary Breeding serves as the Middle School Youth Pastor. He is married to Crystal and they have one daughter, Emily. They came to NorthStar in 2007. Gary is a 2010 graduate of Liberty University with a B.A. in Criminal Justice. Currently he is working on his M.Div. with a concentration in Professional Ministries. He is employed by a local community action agency where he assist those being released from correctional facilities.
